Hiking In Alabama Monday, Jul 7 2008

Althought I dont get to do it as much as I want to, hiking is a great hobby of mine.  Last weekend we got the chance to go with the Westminster Hiking Club.  I really like using Falcon’s Hiking Alabama, 3rd Edition: A Guide to Alabama’s Greatest Hiking Adventures (State Hiking Series)  Check it out our hiking trip  by going to Westminster Hikes the Desoto Scout Trail.

Interesting Reading – The Rise of the Rest Monday, Jul 7 2008

The Post-American World by Fareed Zakaria made great beach reading for my trip to Myrtle Beach South Carolina.  OK so it wasn’t a light hearted novel, but I enjoy books about geopolitical economics and international trends.  Yes our world is becoming more and more connected.  What happens in China and India affects life here…..just look at the demand for energy resources.  What was most surprising to me was the change in China.  It’s no longer the China that Nixon Visited.  I really enjoyed his theory that it’s not about the fall of America as much as it is about the “rise of the rest.”  A really great read.   This is my first introduction to Fareed Zakaira.  His analysis of the inter-realtions of culture, politics and economy is very thoughtful and makes sense.  Check out The Post-American World at Amazon.com and check out Fareed’s show GPS on CNN.

Nothing’s Easy! Monday, Jul 7 2008

Here is my second attempt at a Blog!  Oh how I remember when computers were much easier!  I have a theory…..computer expertise for the average person peaks around 24 and steadily declines with age.  I used to be the young engineer in the office who knew how to program the computer, who knew unix (do they still use that?) and basic and knew how to hack into the network (I am part of the reason for these massive information assurance programs I guess).  But now at 42, I am just a bit rusty.  But I endeavor to learn a few things (mostly about blogging and html) and also share some of my own ideas about life.  Thanks for reading my blog.  More to follow.
